Odyssey’s Cave

All cave lovers will be very interested in the Island of Mljet, mostly because of is famous Odyssey’s Cave. It is an egg-shaped cave, located on the southern coast of the island, near the village of Babino Polje. It is named after the legend of Odyssey, who was allegedly shipwrecked near the cave and remained “trapped” because of the nymph Calypso, who ruled the Island.

The cave is several meters wide. There is a collapsed vault and its bottom is covered with sea water. The cave is accessible from sea, by swimming or a small boat, for its entrance is about 4-5 meters wide. Tunnel cave is about 20 meters long, and the depth of the sea is about 10 meters.
